Notable titles include his Deepwater series, with Deepwater Black being a finalist in 1993 New Zealand Best Teenage Fiction Award and Voyage with Jason, which won the 2001 New Zealand Post Senior Teen Fiction Award and the New Zealand Book of the Year Award in the same year.
His crime novels Talking to Blue, Blue Murder and Blue Blood are true psychological thrillers and have left his readers wanting more.
Ken has often spoken about his writing in both Australia and New Zealand, as well as having conducted numerous writing workshops. He has been writer-in-residence at Dunedin College of Education and guest speaker at the Melbourne Bookworks Conference in 1996.
He was an invited participant at the University of Southern Queensland CD Program of Australasian Science Fiction Writing in 1997 and presented as a keynote speaker at the National Conference of The Children's Book Council of Australia Conference in Perth in 2002.
As well as his novel writing, Ken has also worked as a screenwriter and is happy to speak of these experiences as well.
