Jan Latta
Jan Latta was in the rugged mountains of Rwanda, Africa, when she came face to face with a mountain gorilla. The experience changed her life. She decided to write books for children so they could learn about endangered animals and help protect them in the future.
Jan has travelled to Africa, India, Borneo and China to photograph and write about endangered animals. She lives in a tent, travels with a guide, and follows each animal, sometimes for weeks, to write about the next book. This makes the show unique as Jan has firsthand knowledge of animals in their natural habitat.
Selected to be guest speaker at the 2007 Hong Kong and Shanghai Literary festivals, Jan's presentations are insightful and engaging with a highlight being the more than 100 stunning photographs taken in the wild. Students and teachers are enthralled by her adventure stories during the show. There is also a demonstration about how a book is made for older students.
Jan is author, photographer, and publisher of True to Life Books.
