Andrew Warrilow

Andrew Warrilow

Born in Birmingham, England, and now living in Brisbane, Andrew was 32 when he wrote his first book, The Familiar's Tale. His second book, The Dream Dimension was released a year later and his third book, The Collectors’ Game is due out in mid 2010.

Andrew’s presentations are open, honest and engaging. He speaks about his life journey, including his decision to start writing when he was a reluctant and bored public servant, and how he channelled this negativity into something that has brought him personal fulfilment and re-ignited his passion for life.

Andrew talks in particular about the writing process, how and why he writes and what inspires him. He covers the technical aspects of writing such as character development as well as the practical side, including how to find the time to write and where to begin. His aim is to get the students thinking for themselves and to consider their goals, ambitions and dreams. He asks the students to think about what is important to them and to do all they can to make progress along that route. His unconventional approach is of particular benefit to students who have difficulty conforming, and broadens the mind of those that do. Most importantly, each session is an open forum, giving the students an opportunity to participate and contribute to discussions, as well as ask questions.

Andrew is also the creator of The Ministry of Writers, a web-based networking community for writers. With the motto Read, Write, Review and Rate The Ministry consists of published writers, editors and assessors from all around the world. However, the primary benefit of the site is the peer to peer feedback, allowing writers to grow in confidence and develop the skills, knowledge and experience they need if they wish to pursue a career in writing.

Andrew has attended science fiction/fantasy expos, book signings and presented to students throughout Australia, New Zealand and the UK. For him, its not just a career, its a passion.
