Bronwyn Searle
Trained at the Brisbane College of Art in Graphic Design, Bronwyn has worked professionally in the art field for more than 30 years, starting as a graphic artist. She spent 18 years working at the Queensland Museum designing displays and illustrating museum publications, including the Sciencentre's picture book "Velvet the Flying Gecko". Bronwyn also illustrated Patricia Kennedy's "Princess Lila" which was published by Greater Glider.
Bronwyn has collaborated with her writer husband Rick, on two children's picture books, "Slam Dunk Tim" and "Follow Me," which were published by Random House and Scholastic respectively. "Follow Me" was short-listed for an environment award in 2002 and both publications were selected as Notable Books.
After leaving the Museum in 2002, she freelanced for three years as an illustrator, with commissions including book design consultancy for a Steve Parish/Queensland Museum publication, and many high school text book illustrations for John Wiley Publishers.
Bronwyn is now focusing her time as a painter, fulfilling a lifelong dream. The style of painting that she has developed has been very much influenced by many years of exploring illustrative techniques and a newly discovered passion for oil painting.
As well as being available as illustrator-in-residence for all age groups, Bronwyn conducts presentations, talks and workshops. She enjoys working with secondary school art students who are interested in vocations in the field of graphics and art. Although tertiary courses constantly change, the chance to advise and inspire is constant. She enjoys discussion with students who are keen to investigate the possibilities of art as a career.
