Sana Mammo

Sana Mammo is the recipient of The Australian of the Year 2006, Queensland Local Hero and The Pride of Australia Medal 2006 for Peace Category.

Sana was born in Basra/Iraq and continued her education in the United Kingdom where she obtained her Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Masters. Sana migrated to Australia in 1987. She is a proud Australian and believes in the people's power - especially our youth. She also believes that children are more forgiving than adults; they are the future of the world.

Sana was inspired by a school incident which affected her daughter. She gave up her career as an engineer and founded the Kidz2Kidz Foundation, the Kidz2Kidz Youth Choir and produced the K2K inspirational music CD. The Foundation is a non-profit organisation that is making a difference by planting the seeds of hope for future generations. The inspirational Kidz2Kidz musical CD has inspired people around the world. The Kidz2Kidz choir has performed and still is performing at many events.

Sana works with volunteers, schools, parishes, disadvantaged youth and the corporate sector by engaging them in productive activities to benefit the community. She is committed to bridging the gap between cultures and introducing awareness programs to promote harmony, diversity and peace and to link students around the globe by engaging them in productive projects. Sana is making a difference in the community locally, nationally and internationally. Sana gained recognition from World leaders, Pope Benedict XVI, the Dalai Lama and Professor Ian Frazer Australian of the Year 2006.

An experienced, passionate and inspiring speaker, Sana is involved in many events as a keynote speaker at conferences, Harmony Day, International Women's Day, International Peace Day, ANZAC Day, school assemblies and for many other occasions.

On the 9th November, 2006, Sana received a message of support from Prime Minister John Howard acknowledging the important contribution of the Kidz2Kidz Foundation to the spirit of harmony and freedom both within and outside of Australia. In August 2007, the Governor General of Australia launched the Kidz2Kidz Youth Choir in Brisbane. Her work expanded further during 2008 to found Youth 4 Unity, a not for profit charity organisation involved with diversity and leadership programs. Youth 4 Unity will be hosting their First national Youth Congress and multicultural concert in Brisbane on 3/4/09. Please visit www.youth4unity.org.au for more information.

Sana is currently writing her autobiography.
