Janeen Brian
Janeen Brian never set out to be a writer. However, growing up in the seaside town of Brighton, South Australia, she enjoyed playing with words. When she was about thirty, she began to write, though not seriously. Millions of words later she's had 68 children's books published, three of them winning Honour Awards in CBCA Awards: Pilawuk when I was Young (Eve Pownall Information Book Award), Where does Thursday go? (Early Childhood and Notable in Picture Book category) and Hoosh! Camels in Australia (Even Pownall Information Book Award).
Five other Notables are: Rocky, Dog Star, Duck Down, Leaves for Mr Walter and Party Time! while three have been shortlisted for The Wilderness Society's Environmental Awards: What's in the River?, Its and Bits of Nature (reprinted as Nature's Way) and The Super parp-buster! Many of her books have also been translated.
Apart from writing picture books, short-fiction, non-fiction and novels, Janeen is also an award-winning poet, and her work is included in 14 children's anthologies as well as appearing in children's magazines in Australia and overseas. She also writes short stories, plays and articles for these magazines.
Janeen's main career was in teaching, but she also spent several years acting with a children's theatre group and doing voice-overs for corporate and educational bodies. She's been writing fulltime since 1990.
She enjoys presenting her work to young people in author sessions or workshops. Examples of writing workshops include:
From Me to You (writing from your own experience), Rhythm, Rhyme and a bit of Rap (simple fun raps) and writing techniques such as: Do it with Detail.'
