Alison Lester
Alison was born on a farm in South Gippsland and originally trained as a secondary school art teacher before moving away from school routines and taking up book illustration.
Her first books were with Oxford University Press, where she illustrated stories such as Robin Klein's Thing (1982) before having a go at writing her own stories. Clive Eats Alligators (1989) was the result. This was the first in a series of colourful and lively books celebrating the joys of childhood and the acceptance of others.
In 1997, Alison published The Quicksand Pony, her first children's novel and this was quickly followed by The Snow Pony in 2001.
Alison lives on the rural outskirts of Melbourne with her family and a menagerie of animals. She also spends a lot of time in north and central Australia, often working with indigenous students.
Whilst Alison is available to speak at significant literary events, she very rarely has the time available to undertake school visits.
