Ann James

Since 1980 Ann has illustrated over 60 children's books, working with most children's publishers in Australia.. About half of these are picture books, and many have been short-listed in the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Awards. Most have been included in the annual Notable Books publication of the CBCA. The Midnight Gang, written by Margaret Wild, won four Children's Choice Awards around Australia. In 2008, Lucy Goosey was an Honour Book in the CBCA Book of the Year Awards.

Ann uses a variety of approaches and techniques and usually works in watercolours, inks or dry pastels. With partner, Ann Haddon, she collaborated to produce, Making Pictures, Techniques for illustrating children's books, to inspire artists of all ages to experiment.

In !988 they established Books Illustrated – a gallery dedicated to book illustration and children's books. Together they continue to promote the picture book and endeavour to support the publishing of quality Australian picture books by their involvement in many facets of the Australian children's book industry.
