Ellen Frances
Ellen Frances (aka Ellen Walker) has worked as a teacher, storyteller, journalist, performer, writer-producer and conceptualist. She has qualifications in business, teaching and journalism/media.
While living in the United States between 1997 and 2007, among other things, she worked with Viacom as a writer-producer on various TV, film and media projects as well as exhibiting as a coloured pencil artist, illustrator and photographer.
Experimenting with different ways of telling a tale.
Which isn't surprising as she's been performing as an improvisational storyteller since she was 4 years old and getting paid for it since she was 15! And given she turned 50 in 2008, she's been telling stories for a very, very long time!
Ellen is the author of seven children's books, including Supa Dooper titles and has worked as a feature article writer for children's and adult magazines as diverse as Disney Adventures and TV Week. Additionally, she has also worked as the Children's TV columnist and critic for "The Age Green Guide", as well as creating websites and writing on-line articles for many and varied E-zines, blogs and websites as an Internet Journalist.
Her Australian production work has included writing radio scripts for Bedtime with Barney (USA); a children's TV series for the Seven Network, segments for Network Ten and TV documentaries for Tapeflex Productions.
Ellen is now based back in her hometown of Melbourne. She continues to work as a writer-producer for Viacom and as a freelance writer-producer on independent productions. Among her 2009 writing projects are keeping up two blogs (on children's media/producing and storytelling) as well as children's novels, non-fiction books about storytelling, an adult non-fiction book and its accompanying gift book complete with her photos and illustrations.
Ellen is available as a storyteller and guest speaker to any age group, on any topic (Ellen retains the right to refuse a request). Provide her with your theme and she'll design a show or workshop to suit your school, library or community's needs. Corporate and church events are her specialty although she also loves working at restaurants and wineries given half a chance!
