Jo Hinchliffe
My experience draws on a prolific career in the area of Language Arts.
After many years of classroom teaching (including two one teacher schools) and two years as a teacher librarian, I then proceeded to spend six years in educational publishing at both primary and secondary levels. In 1987, Ashton Scholastic published my first book, ‘The Hilton Hen House', which was re-printed in 2003 as a Big Book pack. I am now an author of 26 books for children and teachers.
Over the past 15 years, I have specialised in the genre of poetry. I have visited hundreds of schools all over Australia conducting writing workshops for children in the classroom and poetry P.D sessions for teachers. I currently hold a part time teaching position at Berwick Lodge Primary School. This is my third year at this school whereby my role as, ‘Literature in the Classroom' enables me to work with all the teachers in every grade on a variety of genres in the area of Language, Art and Performance.
This year, 2007, I am offering schools and communities a wide range of options for children, teachers, parents and adult groups in my areas of expertise. I am available for not only poetry sessions, but for other aspects of literacy.
I have also put together a talk with some fantastic ideas to help you work through stressful situations without resorting to screaming, tantrums, leaving home or worse still, shouting at a child!
