Mark Carthew is an award winning editor and author whose books and series explore the joy of wordplay, music, movement and drama.

His writing credits include numerous books, poetry compilations, songs and school musicals, including the award winning 48 title VoiceWorks play script series for which he is Series Editor and contributing author; also published under license with Scholastic Canada & ETA Cuisenaire USA & with Collins in the UK, this series has achieved great success with one million title sales.
In 2005 Mark received Highly Commended in the National 2005 Dromkeen Librarian's Award which read… Mark Carthew 'whose success in bringing literary experiences to the school community through Music, Drama and Writing is inspirational'.
Mark's latest releases include the stunning picture books Five Little Owls (New Frontier Publishing) illustrated by CBCA Crichton Award winning illustrator Mini Goss, designed for early childhood, The Gobbling Tree (May 2008) illustrated by QLD illustrator Susy Boyer (New Frontier) & Wicked Wizards and Leaping Lizards, illustrated by renowned UK cartoonist & Illustrator Mike Spoor published by Random House Australia.

Mark is a sought after presenter in school and festivals and has recently presented at the Bairnsdale Family Fun Day, Warrnambool Fun4kids Festival, New Zealand Reading Association Conference in Hamilton NZ, All Saints Literature Festival in WA, Voices on the Range Festival & All Saints Qld and he is presenting at the upcoming CBCA Canberra Book week celebrations, Melbourne and Christchurch Writer's Festival NZ school programs.
With the beautiful and exciting children's rhyme anthology Can You Keep a Secret? Timeless rhymes to share and treasure (Random House) scheduled for release in October 2008, Mark is one of Australia's many energetic and talented children's book creators.
Mark also conducts Professional Development events across Australia and NZ is available for teacher, librarian and university PD sessions exploring student engagement with texts and the importance of wordplay, music, movement and drama in language acquisition; a subject that he is currently researching for his PhD in Writing.
