Terry Denton
Terry grew up in Melbourne and studied architecture before moving into animation. Today he is one of Australia's most popular illustrators, whose unique and irreverent style is recognised by readers of all ages.
He has always enjoyed drawing and spent his childhood inventing all sorts of imaginary adventures – a character trait he has taken into adulthood and which is reflected in many of his books.
Working as both an artist and as an illustrator, Terry's humorous cartoon style is complemented by wild colours and a racy text.
During school and library visits, Terry looks at developing characters using simple shapes and expressions and then illustrates his talks with rough sketches, storyboards and finished artwork.
Terry has won numerous awards, some of which are:
- CBCA Picture book of the Year 1986 with Felix and Alexander
- CBCA Honour book in 1994 with The Paw, written by Natalie Jane Prior
- CBCA Shortlisted title in 1995 with Duck for Cover, co authored with Paul Jennings and Ted Greenwood
- BILBY Award in 1999 for Gasp!
- YABBA Award in 2000 for Just Stupid, written by Andy Griffiths and Splat!
