Bruce Shearer
In my writing career, I have written and produced a number of plays at small Melbourne theatres (La Mama, Carlton Courthouse). This has given me experience with workshopping actors and developing scripts to a finished stage for performance. In writing radio drama for ABC Audio Arts I have also been involved in the workshopping and development of radio works from the ground up. I have written a number of plays aimed at youth audiences, which have been performed at schools and universities in Melbourne and Adelaide and in a number of schools across Poland.
I have written a variety of plays where I have written the lyrics and collaborated with composers. In 1994 and 1996 I visited Poland and the Czech Republic where the Australia Council for the Arts sent me to see my plays performed. In 1996 there was one musical production (The Absolutely Awesome Giant Panstwowy Teatr ‘Lalka' Warsaw) and one opera (The Cantankerous Caterpillar Pleciuga Puppet Theatre, Szczecin) performed in Polish children's theatres. In 2004, my play Not Yours, Not Yet and in 2005 This Is Something Special were produced by the Sacramento Actors Centre, in California USA. In 2005, Curriculum Corporation published three of my plays for school audiences, "Plays to Value".
Since 2000 I have been studying Professional Screenwriting at RMIT. My first short film Chance Meeting was produced by RMIT production students in 2001.
I am a co-producer and presenter of "Write Angle Productions" which made a series for broadcast on Channel 31 entitled Take One, The Screenwriter where we interviewed Robert McKee, Rob Sitch & Santo Cilauro, Rob George, Alison Tilson and Rolf De Heer. These programs were broadcast in 2003 and again in 2004.
