Elizabeth Vercoe

Embrace Life!Elizabeth Vercoe

(with thanks to Our Lady of Sion in Box Hill - I stole their stunning topic!)

There seems to be a genuine and growing hunger 'out there' for authentic stories of real life. I've got one of those to share! And I'm happy to speak about it openly, honestly, with a sense of hope and a little bit of humour.

Interwoven with my journey (which deftly incorporates quadriplegia, cancer and bad hair days) are practical strategies for moving forward when life throws up challenges. We explore the possibility of overcoming obstacles. We look at what each of us has on the inside in terms of resilience and strength. We touch on what it is that inspires and, If you're really keen, we could kick off some goal setting too - the s.m.a.r.t. way (specific, measurable etc...)

I have found that the dialogue, deep exploration and heartfelt exchange which tend to follow these sessions are incredibly heart-warming. In fact I have been more than humbled by the calibre of observation and depth of thought among young people. (There have been a couple I would gladly have taken home in my handbag. Alas, no room.) And perhaps this says more about me than them!

In her past lives Elizabeth has worked as a high school teacher, theatre-in-education performer, musician, bartender, firewood stacker, broccoli picker, tractor driver, sandwich maker, coffee frother, CanTeen Vic volunteer, playwright, Queens Trust recipient, artist, chief cook and bottle washer, mother!

As a visitor to your school or library, Elizabeth offers the following themes, with variations:

  • An author / illustrator talk
  • An author / illustrator workshop
  • Character visit from Jess in Keep Your Hair On which includes writing and / or discussion
  • Practical workshop using The Grief Book which includes writing and / or discussion
  • An artist / illustrator workshop
  • A journal making workshop

In short, Elizabeth is more than happy to work with the specific needs of your group, offering a presentation and/or workshop.
