Marcus Robertson is a 25-year-old elite swimmer with the Victorian Institute of Sport, whose major achievements in swimming to date include:
- Winner of 4 Gold and 1 Silver medals at the 2003 Australian University Games, and selected on the Green and Gold Australian University Games Team
- Finalist in the 400m IM at the 2002 Melbourne World Cup international swim meet

- A world ranking of 4th for the 800m Freestyle short-course in 2000
- A Gold medallist in the 800m Freestyle in 1999, and a Silver medallist in 2000 at the Australian Short-course Championships
- State Open Champion in the 400m IM for the last four years
- Member of the Australian team at the 1998 Asian-Pacific Games team in Taiwan, where he won gold in the 400m Freestyle and 400m IM
- A scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport in 1998 and 1999
Marcus is now the second fastest Victorian swimmer of all time in both the 400m Individual Medley and the 800m Freestyle. He is also one of Victoria's premier open-water swimmers and surf lifesavers, having won in excess of 40 open-water events and six state titles during the last 4 years, becoming the 2003 Victorian Surf Lifesaving Champion. Marcus recently won the second largest open-water swim in the world – the Portsea Swim Classic – in January of 2004.
Marcus is also a gifted student and musician. He achieved a TER of 99.7 during his VCE year, and has since:
- Studied an intensive Japanese course at Melbourne university for two years
- Completed a science degree in Biotechnology at Monash University, where he achieved Distinctions or High Distinctions in every subject during the three year course, and was awarded:
- An academic scholarship
- The prestigious Australian Microbiology Society Award for Best Microbiology Student at Monash University in both 2000 and 2001
- Entry to the international "Golden Key Club" for academic excellence
- Is currently studying Medicine at Monash University.
Marcus is a renowned public speaker, who has spoken to and motivated thousands of school children and a large number of businessmen and women over the last six years. His presentations are interactive and humorous, and he has delivered speeches on a wide variety of subjects, including:
- Motivation – goal setting, perseverance and time-management
- Combining academic and sporting excellence – how to effectively combine study with other areas of life, such as sport, and achieve excellence in a wide variety of fields
- Literacy - encouraging children to embrace reading and a love of books
- Embracing a healthy lifestyle - the benefits of exercise, nutrition, balance etc
- Anti drugs/smoking/alcohol
This has led to a high demand for his services for many functions. Highlights include:
- 2003 Leader Sports Star of the Year Awards: Employed as guest speaker for this function to deliver a motivational 60 minute address
- 2002 VISY Marketing Conference: Employed as the guest speaker for this function to deliver a humorous and motivational address to the marketing executive of this national company
- Victorian Institute of Sport Athlete Assembly: The only athlete ever to be employed as MC for this Gala function in 1999 and 2000, reaching an audience of approximately 1200 people each year
- Sport and Recreation Victoria Annual Dinner: Employed as MC and interactive host for this dinner, entertaining an audience of approximately 500 people
- Department of Education 'Blues Awards' Dinner: Employed as guest speaker for this function to deliver a humorous and motivational 30 minute address, and present awards
- Department of Education 'Northern Metropolitan Region Sports Awards': Employed as guest speaker for this function to deliver a humorous and motivational 30 minute address, and present awards
- Rotary Club Annual Dinner: Employed as guest speaker for this function to deliver a humorous and motivational 1 hour address
- Royal Melbourne Show: Teamed up with nutritionist Karen Inge in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 to deliver an entertaining and interactive presentation to promote fresh fruit and vegetables and healthy living
- Swimming Victoria Annual Conference: Employed as guest speaker for this function to deliver a humorous and motivational 1 hour address
- Scotch Collage 'Books Alive' Gala: Delivered a 45 minute motivational speech to Year 11 and 12 students
- 2001 'Book of the Year' Literary Awards: Guest speaker
- Media launch for the 'Australian Youth Literacy Report' at the State Library of Victoria: Guest speaker
- Gippsland Academy of Sport: Employed as guest speaker for this function to deliver a humorous and motivational 1 hour address.
He has also been very actively involved in the Victorian Institute of Sport's 'Sportsperson in Schools Program', and has an ongoing relationship with the Melbourne Juvenile Justice Center, where he makes presentations to inmates, and teaches swimming regularly.
